Local Talent Charity Concert for HIV Prevention

SMR entertainment has connected with some of Houston’s best up and coming talent to host a benefit concert in support of a local charity.  All proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Change Happens organization for their HIV prevention program which provides communities with multiple levels of intervention and education.

Formerly known as Families Under Urban & Social Attack, Change Happens, is a nonprofit that transforms the lives of families and children in the highest-risk communities of Gulf Coast Region 6.  Change Happens, relies on support from individuals, foundation, grantors, and corporations interested in providing life improvements to families and communities.  When it comes to family-focused nonprofits, Change Happens, is a premier provider of services designed to bring positive change to communities – www.changehappenstx.org

SMR Entertainment chose their HIV prevention program due to the staggering impact HIV/AIDS has had on the African-American community. The Change Happens website states that “More than half—55%—of new HIV cases reported in Harris County for 2007 occurred among African-Americans.  Moreover, of all new cases of HIV infection reported for females during that same year, 72% were among African-American females.”

Music has always had the power to influence our youth and our community as a whole. So, the goal of this event is to create awareness and raise funds for a worthy cause.

The event will be held at Midtown Lounge 2117 Chenevert, 77003. Doors will open at 8pm and show will begin promptly at 9pm. Guest admittance is by monetary donation at the door.
