In the eyes of many spectators, the winner of this year’s State Fair Classic would be the eventual SWAC Champion, and Prairie took the victory.

Quarterback K.J. Black rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more Saturday as Prairie View A&M slipped past Grambling State 35-32.
Black completed 16 of 18 passes and threw for 161 of his team’s 184 passing yards to lead the Panthers (2-1, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic) to their first win against Grambling State (2-3, 0-1) since 1987.
The Tigers dominated in the air with quarterback Greg Dillon throwing 293 yards, including two TD passes. But they could not keep up on the ground, with Prairie View outrunning them 180-71.
Dillon also ran in a touchdown in the first half, and teammate Gabriel Fleming returned a blocked punt 20 yards for a touchdown in the second. Grambling State’s Ari Johnson also kicked two field goals.
Prairie View’s Donald Babers helped in the win by carrying a touchdown in the first-quarter.
