Almost 2 years ago Donda West (Kanye West’s mother) died at age 58 after complications from cosmetic surgery. Recently California passed a new law. According to the Los Angeles Times, state lawmakers approved a new measure, called the Donda West Law, which makes health checks and a written clearance mandatory before being allowed to undergo plastic surgery.
Mrs. West had preexisting coronary artery disease and multiple postoperative factors following surgery. After her unexpected death many speculate that a proper physical was not performed before the actual cosmetic procedure took place. Many Physicians believe Mrs. West would still be alive today if this bill was passed 2 years ago.
“Sometimes patients may think they are well enough for cosmetic surgery, but in reality are not,” Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter told the paper. “This bill will potentially save lives.”
Because this bill was only passed in California do you feel that cosmetic procedures will in crease in other states?
