Walt Disney Co. is about to acquire ownership of Marvel Entertainment in a deal worth $4 billion.

Both companies have approved the deal which will see Disney become the owner of Marvel’s 5000+ characters, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, and X-Men.

The deal remains subject to an antitrust review and will require approval from Marvel’s shareholders. If they agree, all  shareholders agree to receive $30 per share in cash plus around 0.745 in Disney shares for each Marvel share they own.

“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories,” Disney President and CEO Robert A. Iger said.

Details of how the acquisition will impact the Marvel Universe and any current or future projects have yet to be disclosed.
