Exclusive Interview With Theophilus London

I had a chance to interview Brooklyn artist Theophilus London after he opened for A-Trak’s 10,000 lb Hamburger tour in Houston, TX. He was exhausted, but was nice enough to answer a few questions about his personal experiences that influenced his music, where he’s from, and where he’s going.
AwkWordsilence: It takes a lot these days to get where you’re at, what’s driving you?
Theophilus London: Seeing my fans reacted to my music, family, and friends back home.
AKWS: I just watched you perform Cold Pillow you seemed really into it. Is that song relative to a personal experience?
Theophilus: Yea at the time I was writing that song I was going through a really bad break up. So I expressed how I felt through that song. But I’m like that to all my songs.
AKWS: My favorite song is TNT. When I first heard it I automatically thought about sex. Was that your agenda? Is it about sex?
Theophilus: [pause smiles] Yea I mean it can be about sex. When I made that song I wanted people to feel happy when they heard it. Either about sex or whatever.
AKWS: Ok well the lyrics “TNT on me” makes me think of…
[Both of us laughing]
Theophilus: Yea
AKWS: So what’s next for you?
Theophilus: Traveling around so the world can hear my music and get to know me. I feel bad because I haven’t had a chance to perform back home in a while, so I’m working on that too. I’m also working on new music.
Theophilus London (Which is his real birth given name) is defiantly on the rise quick. I first heard him on the remix of Solange’s Sandcastle Disco. He has 2 mixtapes Jam and This Charming Mixtape. He says he’s over being called a rapper because of his eclectic influences. Check out his music here http://www.myspace.com/londonwave
