Lebron or Kobe?? Join the debate

Now that the conference championships have begun, fans are getting more and more excited as possibility of a Lebron James versus Kobe Bryant finals duel may become reality.  Much controversy has arrived since the MVP debate came into play earlier this season (Lebron won MVP, Kobe was runner up). So here at Awkwordsilence and around the world the question is still in discussion, “Who would YOU rather have on your team?”

The same question was asked to NBA Haller of Famer and former Laker GM, “Mr Clutch” Jerry West.  As a GM Jerry was responsible for bringing Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and Phil Jackson to Los Angeles.  He is a multi-time NBA champion, Defensive Player of the Year,  Finals and Allstar Game MVP, and is also the silhouette design for the NBA logo (needless to say his opinion matters).  When approached with the Lebron or Kobe question, he is West’s response in an interview:

“I look at Cleveland [and] say to myself, ‘How many games could they win without LeBron James?’ ” West told Reuters in an interview. “That’s how great he is. “He has a chance to be arguably the greatest player ever to play the game.” Better than even Michael Jordan? “Michael Jordan was the best defensive player in the league, but he was also the best offensive player,” West said. “It wasn’t a one-year fluke, he proved it over time. “LeBron James will do the same type of things because he’s getting better. He’s a much more effective shooter. When he’s making his shots from the outside, you can’t play him. “He’s just too big, too strong, too quick. And he has incredible body control. But more than that, he’s a great teammate. You can see his teammates love him.” Still, with the score tied and the clock winding down, West said he would want the ball in Bryant’s hands.

To me its still a close call. Lebron is still very young, but I feel that at this point in his career his talent level has far surpassed the growth rate of any player.  When they said he wasn’t a leader, he became a leader. When they said he couldn’t shoot, he learned to shoot.  He also seems to not have the same egocentric selfishness that can sometimes affect Kobe’s performance. If I had to make a decision for a single play, I’d choose Kobe. If I had to make that decision over a season hands down “King” Lebron James would be my choice of who to build a team around.  Check out this year’s numbers.

Lebron / Kobe

Points Per Game 28.4    26.8

Assists Per Game 7.2       4.9

Rebs Per Game 7.6            5.2

Steals Per Game 1.69       1.46

Blocks Per Game 1.15     .45

As you see here, Lebron has better stats in EVERY category. Not to mention the Cavaliers had the best record out of all teams this regular season (66-16) and only lost 2 games at home (39-2).

    king james all day.

Man, I thinkin King James is too young and more dedicated to winning the ring, really thats all that matters. Kobe did that and been there. Its time to let the New “MJ” make his way an start his 3 peat or at least 1.. Kobe is a GREAT player hands down. After watch the documentary on him that Spike Lee directed, Hes a team player all the way… Overall, Lebron is the best player, proof is in the MVP, Lebron is 3 rebounds, assist, and steal away per game from averaging a triple double, not hard to get..

LOL yall remember when they tried to make the debate between Lebron and Carmello??? Ha fck outta here!

  5. avatar Jerren says:

    Kobe. But it’s close.

As of right know, Kobe can do everything on the court with ease. He is the complete player. Kobe isn’t just GREAT at one thing like Lebron is, rather is he has an array of skills. Lebron is getting there with that and I believe that over time he will get that way…become the complete player. As of now Lebron is using is talent to overpower people, but once he gets that Kobe skill, its going to be OVER.

  6. avatar 100 says:

I agree. Kobe is the most skilled player in the league, Lebron is the most athletic. James has mastered using a combination of strength, speed, and jumping ability to mask his flaws as a pure player… Once he figures out the other part he will be nothing less than a BEAST

    Lebron ova kobe

  8. avatar Dimplez says:

Man o man… whats in the water lately… EVERYBODY’S A KOBE HATER… I do admit, Lebron was the cat in the bag this season, definitely deserving of MVP… them stats are on point no lie… but Kobe is business. He is the the complete package… You can’t hate on his dedication, drive, athleticism or skill set… Yall will come around eventually, can’t hate Kobe forever…. hahahahaaaaa…

  9. avatar admin says:

Is expressing an opinion based on statistical data equivalent to HATING?? Anytime someone is for Kobe they are considered a fan. Anytime someone states other wise they aren’t considered a basketball fan, but a “Kobe hater”…

  10. LeBron, because:

If Kobe and LeBron would have started out the same age the same year, LeBron would have surpassed him already.

  11. avatar Eleven8 says:

I’m rolling with LbJ on this one for the simple fact that we’ve got friends in common lmao

Nah, like u said, his stats are better, he’s a better ball player earlier in the game! LbJ all the way..lets go Cav’s!

  12. avatar Jerren says:

Nah, there are plenty of Kobe haters. Not necessarily haters on his skill set, but rather on him personally. We can relate to Lebron better–kobe is practically a genius: speaks several languages fluently, got a 1500+ on SATs, never been broke a day in his life. Plus he comes off kinda “fake” and not to mention how much he wanted to be like Jordan early in his career. And Lebron is a likeable person. So all I ask is to make sure when you judge any player you take a look at their stats and what exactly they bring to the table. I still think Kobe is the best finisher in the NBA. If the game is on the line, I want him to have the rock because I know he is gonna go down shooting. And he has a knack of making the big play when it matters. Lebron is more advanced at this stage than Kobe was but let’s remember that no one has ever had the “gifts” *pause* that Lebron has. Kinda hard to compare him to anybody…

Hi, nice posts there :-) thank’s for the interesting information

  14. avatar DeAndre says:

KOBE IS A BALL HOG AND A FAKER LEBRON ALL THE WAYYYYYYYYYYYY

  15. Honestly Im not the biggest basketball fan but I say give it to Kobe because I like the Lakers team colors better….
