BET apologizes for Drake and Lil Wayne

young moneyAfter days of constant backlash and negative publicity, BET has apologized to the public for a performance by Lil Wayne, Drake and Young Money Records that involved a group of underage girls on stage during the songs “Best I Ever Had” and “Every Girl” at the 2009 BET Awards.

During the set Young Money had a group of young girls with them, which included Lil Wayne’s daughter and her friends on stage. Problem is that the songs “Best I Ever Had” and “Every Girl” contain several explicit sexual references and profane language not suitable for a young audience.

BET expressed its remorse in a press released statement.

“BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young Money at the BET AWARDS 09 (featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine). Elements of the performance were unplanned and should not have happened.”

Young Money

AND here’s what Drake had to say about the whole ordeal:

“I think what really happened at the BET Awards is with the passing of Mike, the climate really changed, as far as the award show goes. I don’t think it called for us to perform ‘Every Girl’ and ‘Always Strapped,’ and I think it was an award show filled with tributes and music and these genuine heartfelt speeches,” Drake said.

“It was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn’t planned like that,” the recent signee to Young Money continued. “To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies; it wasn’t intended to offend anybody.”

To prove due dillegence, BET has cut the segment of the performance from the repeat showings of the Awards.

Yeah I didn’t get offended by the performance. I was too busy being disappointed by Drake’s ACL injury preventing him from getting out of his seat while rapping, and the fact that he refuses to SING the parts of his songs that were sung in recordings.  I mean while watching the performance I do remember thinking “wtf, why all those kids up there?” but it was no biggie.  Big ups to BET for taking the brunt of the criticism on this that was definitely a responsible approach. Either they are really sincere about their apology or they are using this mishap to cover up all of the other backlash they are getting from the many viewers who hated the poor implementation of Michael Jackson tributes…

Lil’ Wayne just embarassed himself along w/ his children. Prototype “Hood” kids and family. Someone that was trying to better himself, took 10 steps back. Drake is like Wayne’s shadow…he needs to spit Wayne’s pacifier out his mouth and walk on his own two feet…tht was a bad stmnt released by Mr. Degrassi himself…

First and foremost as a dad, I would think that Wayne woukd have the common sense enuf to know that bringing yur daughter on stage when yur talking abt f^cking every girl in the world sends an inscestory kinda message. Hella inappropriate. Cut tht sh^t out! I’m glad BET cut tht segment out of the Jamie and NeYo variety show, I mean tribute (NOT). Drake gave a weak statment because he’s not tryna tell his new boss man tht what he did was whack.. Drake, grow a set.. I know I can’t blame BET entirely for their coonery, BUT the whole world was looking to see how they would honor one of the greats and they failed.

Not a big fan of the BET awards as a whole this year, because I believe it’s sole purpose should have been a commemoration of the king of pop. However, I don’t believe it was at all BET’s responsibility to apologize on behalf of young money. The fact that they removed the clips probably ceased the complaints, but that wasn’t the first complaint & it won’t be the last. You can’t apologize for everything, and if BET plans to, they should start by apologizing for “wayne & friends” wack fashion choices; like those 80s roller rink bermuda barbie sunglasses, or drake always dressing like buzz lightyear.

LMAO @ “Drake, grow a set”

Honestly, I did see the little girls on stage and was like WTFeezy? Why are these “lil” (as in underage not even middle school to say the least) girls doing on stage? Especially to this song(s) (cuz they were onstage for the next song)

OH! Drake a torn ACL doesnt prevent somewhat of a preformance. Im sorry

I completly agree with all of you all
props to BET taking some of the heat
